THE ALYPKIN POSTERITY
In the times of old there lived wonderful batyrs* of the Alyp kin. They were giants of men, and they could just step over such small mountains as Magash Mountain, and they tore up poplar groves by the roots as they were in the way, and they got their legs scratched by those poplars. When one of the Alyps came back home from the battle field, be shook out the dust from his leather footwear, and from that dust there came the Alyp Mountains. And when he stepped seven steps back, seven clearings appeared, and the seven clearings then gave home to seven Bashkort tribes. They say, the most ancient Bashkort tribe originated from those Alyp batyrs.
